Ostravice river weir provides natural summer recreation in Frýdek-Místek

The U Žida weir on the Ostravice river in Frýdek-Místek serves as a popular, informal summer destination for locals and cyclists. Unlike traditional swimming pools, the site offers a natural river environment characterized by a stony bed and varying water levels depending on weather and recent rainfall.

Following recent reconstructions, the area features a fish pass on the right bank and decorative concrete surfaces featuring murals designed by local schoolchildren. The location is easily accessible via cycling route 59, which connects Ostrava to the Beskydy Mountains. Visitors are advised to bring water shoes due to the uneven riverbed and to exercise caution near the weir, where currents can create dangerous recirculating flows.
