Ostros residents report dead horse burned with tires after delayed removal

Residents of the village of Ostros, near Bar, have reported that a dead horse, which was discovered early last week, was left uncollected for several days before being burned with car tires on Friday morning.

Locals claim they contacted the municipal utility company, DOO ‘Komunalne djelatnosti’ Bar, which is responsible for removing deceased animals from public areas. According to residents, officials inspected the site and determined the horse had been poisoned, but stated they lacked the machinery required for removal. Residents allege they were told the carcass would be covered with walnut branches and burned overnight once the wind subsided.

Citizens expressed concerns regarding the spread of disease and unpleasant odors caused by the carcass, noting that dogs had been scavenging parts of the animal. While the burning occurred under the cover of night or early morning, residents suggested the act might have been carried out by locals following advice from the utility company. The company has not provided a specific response regarding whether employees are authorized to burn animal remains in the open or if disciplinary measures are being considered.
