OSU-Cascades to host Head Start program following childcare center closure

OSU-Cascades will host a new Head Start program starting September 8 to address childcare shortages following the abrupt closure of the Little Kits Early Care & Education Center due to financial challenges.

NeighborImpact, a provider serving over 600 children in Deschutes County, will utilize half of the 7,200-square-foot building formerly used by Little Kits. The program will offer 33 slots for children aged zero to five, specifically targeting low-income families. Beyond childcare, the federal Head Start program includes services such as meals, nutritional support, health screenings, and assistance for parents.

Dr. Christine Pollard, interim chancellor of OSU-Cascades, stated that the university is actively seeking a second provider to occupy the remaining space in the building to further expand local childcare options.
