OSUG performs cine-opera La Bella y la Bestia at Cervantino
The Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato (OSUG) performed the cine-opera ‘La Bella y la Bestia’ at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas as part of the Festival Internacional Cervantino. Directed by Juan Carlos Lomónaco, the production combined Jean Cocteau’s 1946 classic film with a minimalist soundtrack composed by Philip Glass.
Despite heavy rain during the event, the audience remained to witness the multidisciplinary performance. The production featured vocalists including mezzo-soprano Gabriela Flores as Belle and baritone Enrique Ángeles as the Beast, performing in a style that blends staged opera with concert opera by synchronizing vocals with the film's dialogue.
