Osun State Gubernatorial Election 2026: INEC Prepares, APC Calls It Must‑Win

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 2,339,233 voters are registered for the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election and has extended the PVC collection deadline to July 31. INEC will use Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and has commissioned a new media studio and BVAS storage facility in Osogbo. Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan appealed to traditional rulers, especially the Ooni of Ife, for support and announced cash and foreign‑travel incentives for staff who perform well during the poll.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated a 291‑member national campaign council, describing the Osun contest as a “must‑win” litmus test for the party’s readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections. APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda stressed that winning the election is essential for the party’s political machine, while Governor Ademola Adeleke declared the poll cannot be rigged.
