APC petitions police over Ogun governorship candidate impersonation claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute Abayomi Hunye for allegedly impersonating the party’s 2027 Ogun State governorship candidate. The party describes Hunye’s actions as “false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation” intended to mislead the public and destabilize the state.

According to the APC, Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his local ward. Despite this, the party claims he has used social and print media to present himself as the official flagbearer. The APC maintains that Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun are the only recognized candidates for the 2027 election.

Hunye has contested these claims, alleging that the party is acting in bad faith. He stated that he purchased a N50 million nomination form and successfully passed the party’s screening process after his alleged suspension. He argued that the party cannot claim to have suspended him while simultaneously accepting his money and clearing him for screening, and he intends to pursue the matter through legal channels.
