Osun Governorship Election: Peace Charter Signed, Accord Party Claims Victory Confidence

On August 15, 2026, Osun State in Nigeria will hold its governorship election. Twelve of the fourteen political parties contesting the race signed a Peace and Accountability Charter at a summit in Osogbo, pledging issue‑based campaigns, rejection of violence and respect for electoral institutions. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) did not attend the signing. Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeking re‑election on the Accord Party ticket, was represented by the state Commissioner for Industry, who signed on his behalf. Dr Segun Aina, chair of the Osun Development Association, said the charter aims to ensure peaceful elections and accountable leadership.

The Accord Party also voiced confidence that it will win the governorship contest and urged a high voter turnout. Party leaders met national chairman Maxwell Mgbudem, who called for unity among members, stressed the need to resolve internal disputes through party mechanisms, and appealed for support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
