Osun State Auditor-General recommends halting overhead funds for unaccountable MDAs

Osun State Auditor-General Kolapo Idris has recommended the immediate stoppage of overhead funding to ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) that fail to provide proper financial accountability. This recommendation was part of a report on the state government's accounts for the financial year ending December 31, 2025, presented during an audit forum in Osogbo.

Idris identified several administrative and financial issues, including negligence by internal auditors, improper preparation of accounting documents, fictitious expenditures, wrongly computed statutory deductions, and the abuse of approval and payment processes. To address these deficiencies, he proposed increased training for accountants and internal auditors to improve service delivery.

Additionally, the Auditor-General called for stricter adherence to accounting standards and the strengthening of the Inspectorate and Management Services Department within the Accountant-General’s Office. While noting an increase in revenue from the Federation Account, Idris urged the state to pursue a more aggressive internally generated revenue strategy, specifically by capturing more participants from the informal sector.
