Osun State establishes committee for N500m election violence relief fund

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has inaugurated a 10-member committee to oversee the disbursement of a N500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund. Chaired by Speaker Adewale Egbedun, the committee is tasked with verifying claims from individuals who suffered injuries, displacement, or property loss during recent election-related violence.

The committee includes representatives from civil society, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Ministries of Information and Justice. While the government emphasizes a transparent and credible verification process, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has criticized the committee's composition, arguing that the exclusion of political party representatives undermines its fairness and inclusiveness.

In a separate development in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has demanded an independent investigation into two alleged attacks on his supporters. Omo-Agege accused Delta State officials of dismissing the violence as a “campaign strategy” rather than addressing the injuries and destruction caused by armed groups during recent political engagements.
