Osun State government vows to prosecute perpetrators of recent violent killings

The Osun State government has pledged to hold all individuals responsible for recent violent crimes accountable, denying allegations that the administration is protecting perpetrators. Samuel Ojo, Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Security Matters, announced that an emergency security meeting was convened on Wednesday to address a surge in killings following the August 15 gubernatorial election.

The violence includes at least five deaths linked to cult attacks and a leadership dispute within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Among the deceased are Olalekan Oyeyemi, killed during a succession struggle, and Adekunle Adejuwon, reportedly killed by suspected cultists.

While some NURTW leaders claimed the government had endorsed Oyeyemi for the chairmanship, the Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied this, stating the union had merely briefed him on their decision. Security agencies, including the Police and DSS, have been directed to investigate the incidents thoroughly.
