Osun State Governor orders flood infrastructure audit and early-warning system
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has launched a series of initiatives to address recent flooding that has impacted homes, businesses, and livelihoods across the state. The governor has ordered a comprehensive audit of all flood-control infrastructure projects completed since 2020 to ensure effectiveness.
To improve future preparedness, the administration is introducing an early-warning system and developing an Osun State Flood and Stormwater Master Plan based on hydrological assessments. Adeleke has directed various ministries and agencies, including the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) and the Osun Waste Management Agency (OWMA), to conduct coordinated assessments of affected communities and document damages.
Specific directives include the Ministry of Works inspecting damaged bridges and roads, while the Environment Ministry and OWMA work to clear critical waterways and drainage channels. The governor also emphasized the need for residents to support environmental efforts by avoiding the dumping of refuse into waterways and refraining from building on natural water paths.
