Osun State elderly voters participate in governorship election
During the Osun State governorship election, several elderly citizens demonstrated high levels of civic engagement. Among them was 97-year-old Isaac Adeniran Adesanmi, who has been voting since the era of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Despite initial technical difficulties with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failing to capture his fingerprints and face, he successfully cast his ballot after assistance from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.
Other octogenarians and senior citizens also participated in the voting process, expressing their desire for good governance. Some voters, including a woman living with a disability, commended the peaceful conduct of the election and the respectful treatment provided by INEC personnel. Adesanmi and other elderly voters urged Nigerian youths to participate in the electoral process to ensure the selection of quality leaders.
Separately, former President Olusegun Obasanjo led a 2.5km walk with members of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Senior Citizens Club in Abeokuta. He used the event to advocate for regular exercise as a vital component for maintaining health and vitality in old age.
