Osun State parents face rising costs for school materials

As schools in Osun State prepare to resume academic activities, parents and guardians are facing significant financial strain due to the rising cost of educational materials. A market survey in the state capital revealed that prices for essential learning items, such as textbooks, have increased by between 60 and 100 percent compared to the previous academic session.

Parents reported that items previously costing N50,000 now reach approximately N90,000, while basic supplies like exercise books, mathematical sets, and school bags have also seen price hikes. Some families have resorted to borrowing money to meet the demands of the new session.

Bookshop owners and publishers have attributed these increases to tripled costs for paper, printing ink, and logistics, alongside high government taxation.
