Osun State Police arrest five suspects over Methodist Church attack

Osun State Police have arrested five suspects following an attack on a Methodist Church in the Fiwasaye area of Osogbo. The incident occurred on September 20, 2026, at approximately 10:40 am.

According to police reports, the disturbance began when youths playing football on a vacant plot adjacent to the church kicked a ball into the premises, breaking a louvre window. Instead of showing remorse, the individuals allegedly threw stones into the church, causing further damage to windows and the rear glass of a Mitsubishi vehicle belonging to a church member.

Police operatives from the Iludun Division responded to a distress call and apprehended the suspects at the scene. The arrested individuals have been identified as Tajudeen Hassan, Adewale Yusuf, Kabiru Abdulsalam, Olanrewaju Abiodun, and Adewale Mujidat. A red Yamaha motorcycle was also recovered from the scene.

State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura has ordered a professional investigation into the matter and urged residents to avoid escalating minor disputes into violence.
