Osvaldo Jaldo calls for prosecution of parents after school weapon incidents

Tucumán Governor Osvaldo Jaldo has called for legal action against parents who allow minors to access firearms following recent incidents where students brought weapons to schools. The incidents, which occurred last week at Escuela Congreso in the capital and involving a 12-year-old in Alderetes, caused alarm within the educational community.

Jaldo emphasized that the responsibility lies with families rather than the state, noting that weapons are accessed in homes rather than within the schools themselves. He stated that parents who permit minors to have access to weapons are “committing a crime” and insisted that the justice system must hold them accountable, including potential prison sentences.

The Governor also addressed the difficulty of implementing permanent security checks on all students, noting that the state cannot feasibly inspect the backpacks of every primary and secondary student daily. He stressed that prevention must begin at home to avoid endangering the entire educational community.
