Oswaldo Eustáquio registers candidacy for federal deputy

Blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio, currently a fugitive in Spain, has registered his candidacy for federal deputy in Paraná through the União Brasil party. His name now appears in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) system following a last-minute request for candidacy substitution.

Eustáquio faces several legal challenges in Brazil, including a preventive arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for crimes including crimes against democracy, obstruction of justice, and criminal association. While he is a fugitive, his legal team argues that because there is no final conviction (res judicata), he remains eligible to run under the 'Ficha Limpa' law.

His defense successfully modified a previous prison sentence to a fine, which helped bypass certain eligibility restrictions. Reports suggest Eustáquio may attempt to enter Brazil after a specific legal window opens that limits candidate arrests, while his daughter is already in Curitiba to assist with the campaign.
