OT Group headquarters protested over Al Quran blasphemy allegations
Mass organizations, including the Front Persaudaraan Islam (FPI), staged a protest at the OT Group headquarters in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on August 14, 2026. The demonstration follows allegations of religious blasphemy involving a music festival called The Sound Project in Ancol, where a challenge reportedly offered alcoholic beverages as prizes for reciting verses of the Al Quran.
Syahrul Ahadi, Chairman of Tarbiyah FPI West Jakarta, demanded a direct public apology from OT Group management to alleviate the anger of the Muslim community. In response, Newport Director Handoko Sasongko issued an apology to the Muslim community regarding the alleged blasphemy and noted that the matter is currently undergoing a legal process.
Separately, the Polda Metro Jaya has named four suspects—identified by the initials RES, AK, I, and M—in connection with the incident. Two of the suspects have been arrested and detained as police continue to process five separate reports filed regarding the case.
