Kakamigahara man arrested for throwing two daughters from 6th-floor balcony
A 25-year-old man, Tomokazu Miura, was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly throwing his two daughters from a sixth-floor apartment balcony in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture.
The incident occurred in the early hours of September 26. The police had arrived at the residence around 11:30 PM the previous night following a report from Miura's wife, who stated that he had grabbed her arm during a domestic dispute. After the initial contact, Miura barricaded himself inside the apartment, leading to a standoff with authorities.
In preparation for potential emergencies, police and emergency responders had deployed large protective mats beneath the building. As officers attempted to enter the apartment around 4:20 AM, Miura reportedly took his daughters, aged 4 and 1, to the balcony and threw them over the edge.
Due to the presence of the protective mats, both children survived the fall and were conscious when transported to the hospital. Miura was apprehended at the scene and has remained silent regarding his motives during police questioning.
