Otake stable sumo wrestlers join beach cleanup in Kanagawa
Sumo wrestlers from the Otake stable participated in the ‘Dosukoi Beach Clean 2026’ at Katase Higashihama Beach in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, on August 22. The event, which has been held annually since 2015 in partnership with the Nippon Foundation, brought together approximately 800 participants, including children and characters from the popular anime ‘Sazae-san’.
Participants engaged in collecting litter along the shoreline, gathering various types of waste including plastic bottles, cans, and glass. Following the cleanup, the event featured sumo-themed exercises and interactive wrestling experiences between the participants and the wrestlers. Kiboho, a wrestler from the Otake stable, noted that the increasing number of participants has contributed to the beach appearing cleaner, stating that ‘having no trash is the best outcome.’
