Otay Mesa Port of Entry reopened after suspicious package closure

The Otay Mesa Port of Entry was closed for over two hours on Wednesday morning due to a suspicious package found on the United States side of the border. The San Diego Police Department initiated the closure of both pedestrian and vehicular lanes shortly after 8:00 AM to allow specialized bomb disposal teams to investigate the potential threat.

During the closure, authorities advised travelers to use the San Ysidro Port of Entry to avoid delays. By 11:02 AM, the San Diego Police Department confirmed that the package posed no risk and that all closures had been lifted. Normal traffic flow for both pedestrians and vehicles has since resumed at the Otay Mesa crossing.
