Otelier and Avalara launch hotel tax compliance integration

Otelier and Avalara have launched a two-way integration designed to automate lodging tax compliance for hotel finance and accounting teams. The integration connects Avalara’s tax calculation and compliance tools with Otelier Rec.

Through this connection, daily revenue summaries and exemption details are transferred from Otelier Rec to Avalara to automate the preparation, filing, and remittance of sales and lodging tax returns. The system also flags discrepancies between verified tax rates from Avalara and the rates applied within a Property Management System (PMS), allowing for corrective action before filing occurs.

Additionally, Otelier has implemented a new workflow requiring users to document reasons for tax-exempt line items. This creates a feedback loop between PMS tax collection and Avalara’s rate verification and exemption management, aiming to reduce manual effort and mitigate the risks associated with managing complex tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
