Other Mommy tops box office as The Social Reckoning underperforms

The North American box office saw a stark contrast between the successful debut of the horror film ‘Other Mommy’ and the disappointing performance of the drama ‘The Social Reckoning’.

‘Other Mommy’, produced by Universal and Blumhouse and starring Jessica Chastain, earned approximately $27.5 million domestically and $45.2 million globally during its opening weekend. Despite receiving poor critical reviews and a ‘D+’ CinemaScore, the film exceeded financial expectations relative to its $19 million budget.

In contrast, Sony’s ‘The Social Reckoning’, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, struggled to attract audiences. The film, which focuses on the Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, opened in fifth place with an estimated $5.5 million domestically and $9 million worldwide. This performance fell significantly short of the $7 million to $8 million projected by analysts and is notably lower than the $22 million opening of Sorkin’s previous hit, ‘The Social Network’.
