Otočac hosts traditional masnica culinary workshop

A workshop dedicated to the preparation of masnica, a traditional delicacy of the Gacka Valley and Lika region, was held at the Gacko Folk Open University in Otočac. Led by members of the “Gačanka” Association, 15 participants learned the complete process of making the dish, including ingredient preparation, dough kneading, stretching, shaping, and baking.

The workshop focused on adapting traditional methods to modern kitchen constraints, such as limited workspace, by teaching participants to work with smaller portions of dough. The event aimed to preserve the gastronomic and intangible heritage of the region. As of 2025, the art of making masnica is recognized as an intangible cultural good and is listed in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia. The 2026 program was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and Media.
