Otočac marks 280 years of traditional Wednesday market

The city of Otočac has marked the 280th anniversary of its traditional Wednesday market tradition. The celebration, held as part of European Heritage Days, honors a history dating back to September 13, 1746, when Empress Maria Theresa reportedly approved the weekly market.

To commemorate the milestone, the Tourist Board of the City of Otočac, in collaboration with the Gacka Folk Open University and the company XRPG, expanded the ‘Otočac through Augmented Reality’ project. The ‘Discover Otočac’ mobile application has been updated to include an augmented reality figure of Empress Maria Theresa, who provides users with historical facts regarding the city and its market.

The application, which is available on Android and iOS in four languages, previously featured augmented reality content for the Fortica fortress, the old town of Otočac, the Otočac border guard, the city coat of arms, and various historical symbols.
