OTP Bank faces service disruptions and deepfake fraud warnings
OTP Bank is facing two distinct issues: technical service disruptions and a widespread fraudulent advertising campaign.
On Saturday, users reported difficulties with card transactions, mobile banking, and online transfers. The bank confirmed that a technical error is causing some card purchases to fail and stated that staff are working to restore services. The Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) also noted that errors in the OTP Simple Pay system could lead to transaction delays or rejections. These issues appear to be unplanned, as they do not coincide with previously scheduled maintenance.
Separately, OTP Bank has issued a warning regarding scammers using the bank's name and logo to promote a fake 'OTP Casino' application. The bank warned that fraudsters are utilizing deepfake technology to create convincing, news-style videos to deceive customers. OTP emphasized that it does not operate any such casino application and urged customers to verify all news sources before sharing data or transferring funds.
