Otsu City school janitor dismissed for drunk driving and false statements
The Otsu City Board of Education has issued a disciplinary dismissal to a 61-year-old male school janitor following a drunk driving incident in May. The man was driving a light truck from his home to a convenience store when he struck a parked vehicle in the store's parking lot.
In addition to the accident, the individual provided false information to the police, claiming to be an employee of a private facility rather than a municipal employee. He also failed to report the specific details of the property damage to his school principal, though he did mention being apprehended for drunk driving.
The man was previously issued a summary order by the Otsu Summary Court, resulting in a 500,000 yen fine. The Board of Education stated that the incident significantly damaged public trust and expressed deep regret, pledging to strengthen discipline and prevent future occurrences.
