Ottawa Redblacks fire defensive coordinator Will Fields, appoint Jeff Reinebold

The Ottawa Redblacks announced the dismissal of defensive coordinator Will Fields on Saturday, a day after a 34‑13 home loss to the Montreal Alouettes that left the team winless at 0‑7. Head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie said the decision was difficult but thanked Fields for his contributions over two seasons.

Jeff Reinebold, previously the special‑teams coordinator, will assume the defensive coordinator role, while Nate Taylor moves up to special‑teams coordinator. The Redblacks have allowed 247 points in seven games, the most in the CFL, and rank last in four defensive categories, prompting the staff change.

Fields, 48, had a 12‑year CFL playing career and previously coached with several league teams before joining Ottawa in 2025.
