Ottawa Redblacks to start rookie Bryson Barnes against Toronto Argonauts

Rookie quarterback Bryson Barnes is set to make his first start for the Ottawa Redblacks this Friday night against the Toronto Argonauts. The announcement was made by Ottawa head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie following Wednesday’s practice.

Barnes, 25, becomes the third starting quarterback for Ottawa this season, following veterans Jake Maier and McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Throughout the current season, the 6-foot-1, 213-pound Barnes has primarily been utilized in short-yardage situations, recording nine rushing touchdowns over 14 games. He has completed 10 of 13 passes for 110 yards with one interception.

The Redblacks enter the matchup with a 0-16 record, while the Argonauts hold a 9-7 record. It is expected that Barnes will also start the regular-season finale in Hamilton on October 24.
