Ottawa River Ward Councilor Highlights Bike‑Lane Review and Local Projects

City Councillor Riley Brockington of Ottawa’s River Ward outlined several municipal initiatives in his January 1, 2026 e‑newsletter. He encouraged residents to enjoy winter activities at local parks and the Terry Fox Athletic Centre, and listed upcoming public sessions on the Confederation Heights Master Plan, the ALTO high‑speed rail project, and water‑infrastructure renewal.

Brockington noted that, following the provincial Bill 60’s royal assent in late 2025, the City of Ottawa is assessing the impact on proposed bike‑lane additions on Merivale and Walkley Roads in River Ward. The legislation requires provincial approval before municipalities can reduce motor‑vehicle lanes for new bicycle lanes, and the council expects further guidance by mid‑winter.
