Otter Co-op returns to profitability with $1 million member payout

Otter Co-op has announced a return to profitability for 2025, enabling the organization to issue profit-sharing payments to its members. Despite a challenging financial year, the co-op reported total sales of $471.9 million, representing a turnaround of nearly $7.8 million compared to the previous year.

Following the board's approval under the B.C. Co-op Act, $1.033 million will be distributed to qualifying members. These payouts are calculated based on one percent of members’ 2025 fuel purchases. CEO Jack Nicholson attributed the recovery to effective cost management across divisions and improved margins in key areas.

The co-op’s petroleum division, which includes gas bar and bulk fuel operations, was a significant factor in achieving profitability. Nicholson noted that while the petroleum market remains volatile due to external economic factors, the organization intends to continue investing in the division to ensure long-term stability and growth.
