Ottoman Archives reveal Şehzade Mustafa's links to Erzurum
A historical document discovered in the Ottoman Archives has highlighted the political connections between Şehzade Mustafa and the Erzurum region. Researcher Taner Özdemir identified a decree dated 29 Zilhicce 960, which was sent to the Erzurum Beylerbeyi, Ayas Pasha, following the death of Şehzade Mustafa in 1553.
Historical research and studies by the Turkish Historical Society suggest that Şehzade Mustafa and Ayas Pasha had previously engaged in direct correspondence. In these exchanges, Mustafa reportedly sought future political support, while Ayas Pasha requested to be remembered should the prince ascend to the throne.
