Otwock protests over controversial Netanyahu posters

Controversial posters featuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have appeared in Otwock, Poland, sparking a debate over the boundaries of political criticism and antisemitism. The posters depict Netanyahu in a uniform resembling a Nazi outfit, with a Star of David placed where a swastika would typically be. The materials include the text “Übermenschen” and accusations that “Israel is committing genocide in Palestine. Benjamin Netanyahu leads the crime.”

The Aleks Dancyg Polish-Israeli Cultural Cooperation Association has formally protested to city authorities. Association head Zvi Henryk Kelner stated that while political criticism of the Israeli government is permissible in a democracy, the use of Nazi symbolism crosses the line of fair debate. Kelner noted the historical weight of such imagery in Otwock, a town that once had a large Jewish population and suffered significantly during the Holocaust.

Local authorities have indicated they will react to the unauthorized displays, though the identity of those responsible for hanging the posters remains unknown.
