Otxarkoaga civic center suspends senior activities due to cleaning strike

The Otxarkoaga civic center in Bilbao has been forced to suspend various activities for seniors due to an ongoing cleaning strike. The facility is currently unusable for sports and health activities because of an accumulation of waste, including shredded polystyrene boxes that users report smell of fish and contain traces of blood.

Since October 1, most scheduled sessions for the senior center and Bilbao Kirolak have been halted. The lack of cleanliness has affected the gym, changing rooms, and bathrooms. Users have reported health concerns, including skin irritations and bites, resulting from the waste. Beyond physical exercise, residents noted that these classes are vital for social interaction and maintaining daily routines.
