Ouagadougou launches mural project to showcase Burkinabè culture

The Burkinabè Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism has launched a pilot project to beautify urban spaces through large-scale mural paintings. On August 12, 2026, Minister Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo officially inaugurated the initiative on Avenue Burkina in Ouagadougou.

The project aims to enhance the country's urban environments while celebrating the cultural diversity of Burkina Faso's 17 regions. The pilot phase is being executed by artist Sié Palenfo, also known as Sié Decor. The murals are expected to cover approximately 1.5 kilometers of length, spanning roughly 3,750 square meters of surface area.

In addition to representing regional identities through specific colors and motifs, the artwork will include a dedicated wall honoring Pan-African figures and inspiring leaders. The initiative is intended to strengthen national pride and create urban spaces that serve as repositories of history and cultural values.
