Ouagadougou reading camp concludes with 600 children participating

The seventh edition of the reading holiday camp concluded in Ouagadougou on August 8, 2026. The program hosted over 600 children, aged 3 to 20, focusing on the theme ‘Cultural identity and modern citizenship.’

During the three-week program, participants engaged in reading, arts, oral performance, theater, dance, and song. This year, robotics was also introduced to the curriculum. To explore their heritage, children used a specially edited book titled ‘In search of my identity’ to research their family origins and ancestral villages.

Jacques Sosthène Dingara, the Minister of Basic Education, Literacy, and the Promotion of National Languages, presided over the closing ceremony. He noted that the camp serves as a vital complement to formal schooling and family education by providing a unique learning environment. Camp promoter Alimata Millogo expressed satisfaction with the edition, highlighting the creative output of the children through various artistic activities and drawing exhibitions.
