Oude Pekela: Driver arrested after hit-and-run and high intoxication

A 37-year-old Polish national was arrested in Oude Pekela following a hit-and-run incident involving four parked cars and a carport. The driver fled the scene of the accident on Monday, August 17, around 10:00 PM.

Following a report from a vigilant citizen regarding dangerous driving, police located the vehicle and apprehended the suspect in the Britanniawijk area. Testing revealed the driver was significantly intoxicated, recording a breath alcohol level of 1210 µg/l, which is 5.5 times the legal limit of 220 µg/l for experienced drivers.

The suspect was transferred to a detention center in Groningen and released after questioning. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution Service and the court for further legal proceedings.
