OUIGO cancels all Spanish trains for November 2 due to strike

The rail operator OUIGO has cancelled all scheduled train services for Monday, November 2, following a strike called by the SEMAF union. The decision follows a ruling by the Audiencia Nacional, which provisionally overturned a Ministry of Transport mandate that had established minimum service levels of approximately 72%.

OUIGO stated the cancellation aims to prevent confusion at stations and minimize traveler disruption. The company estimates that approximately 40 trains will be suppressed between October 30 and November 2, affecting roughly 20,000 passengers. The strike specifically impacts connections such as the high-speed line between Murcia and Madrid.

Affected travelers are being notified via email and are eligible for free ticket changes, full refunds, or compensation of up to 200% of the ticket price. While SEMAF accuses the company of violating collective agreements regarding shifts and overtime, OUIGO maintains it is in compliance and is engaged in discussions with the union.
