Ouigo train cancellations prompt refund guidance for French passengers
During a recent heatwave, numerous Ouigo high‑speed trains were cancelled across France, leaving passengers uncertain about how to obtain refunds. By default, the operator offers vouchers, but many travellers, such as user Gilles, have reported having to cover extra costs and receive little assistance. Gilles posted a detailed thread on X (formerly Twitter) explaining how to claim a direct bank refund, which has been viewed over 720,000 times.
Under EU regulation 2021/782, passengers are entitled to an immediate choice of a full ticket refund, continuation of the journey, or rerouting when a train is delayed by 60 minutes or more or is cancelled. The guidance highlights how to invoke these rights against SNCF, the parent company of Ouigo.
