Oulu District Court sentences two men for fatal incident in Kaukovainio

The Oulu District Court has sentenced two men to prison following a fatal incident in the Kaukovainio district of Oulu in May 2025. Markus Eino Tapani Huhda, 34, and Dani Tapani Kristian Kaukkua, 26, were convicted of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault through excessive self-defense.

The court found that the victim arrived at the residence of the younger defendant, leading to a violent confrontation. While the defendants claimed they were acting in self-defense against an aggressive and intoxicated individual wielding a knife, the court ruled that the level of violence used exceeded what was necessary for protection. The victim died from wounds to his leg caused by a sharp object.

Evidence presented during the trial indicated that bloodstains had been wiped from different levels of the house in an attempt to conceal the extent of the victim's injuries. Both men received prison sentences of two years and three months.
