Oulx migrant shelter to close; Red Cross to provide mobile housing
The Rifugio Massi migrant shelter in Oulx, Italy, is scheduled to close on September 1 due to financial deficits and the need for urgent energy and system upgrades. Over the past eight years, the facility has provided food, medical care, and legal assistance to more than 150,000 people attempting to cross the Alpine border between Italy and France.
Following an emergency meeting convened by the Prefecture of Turin, a temporary solution has been established to provide nighttime shelter. The Italian Red Cross will deploy mobile structures, including tents and containers, to ensure migrants have a place to sleep during the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. While the exact location for these mobile units in Oulx is still being finalized, the measure aims to maintain continuity of care and prevent humanitarian issues in the border region.
