Our Lady of Mercy feast celebrated by religious communities
Religious celebrations were held in honor of Our Lady of Mercy, the patron saint of various dioceses and rectories, marking the feast day with solemn masses and historical reflections.
In Uruguay, Father Germán Celio presided over a mass at the cathedral, joined by Monsignor Héctor Luis Zordán and other clergy. During his homily, Celio recounted the 13th-century origins of the Mercedarian Order, founded by Saint Pedro Nolasco following a vision of the Virgin Mary to liberate Christian captives from slavery. He noted the presence of Saint Ramón Nonato in the cathedral's altarpiece, highlighting his sacrifice as a hostage to secure the freedom of others.
In Mexico, Father Alejandro Aguayo Escalante led a patronal mass at the Tanlum colony rectory. He emphasized the historical mission of the Mercedarians, noting that the message of liberation received by Pedro Nolasco and others 808 years ago remains relevant. He encouraged the faithful to serve others and find spiritual liberation, connecting the historical vow of redemption to modern Christian life.
