Oura faces lawsuit over alleged inaccurate AI sleep tracking
Oura, a prominent smart ring manufacturer, is facing a class action lawsuit filed by the Clarkson Law Firm in San Francisco. The lawsuit alleges that the company engaged in false advertising by deceiving consumers regarding the accuracy of its AI-generated sleep tracking capabilities.
The plaintiffs claim that Oura’s sensors and algorithms are incapable of detecting the physiological signals necessary to accurately measure specific sleep stages. The suit alleges that instead of providing clinical-grade data, the device relies on “AI-generated guesses” that are no more accurate than “a coin flip.”
While Oura’s marketing materials claim a “95% Sleep Staging Accuracy compared to clinical sleep lab” settings, the lawsuit argues that the company lacks the complex equipment, such as multiple electrodes used to measure brain activity, required to achieve such precision. The legal action seeks class action status and a jury trial, asserting that users rely on these potentially inaccurate figures to make significant health and lifestyle decisions.
