Oura sues Ultrahuman over smart ring patent infringement
Oura has filed a lawsuit against its competitor Ultrahuman in a Texas federal court, seeking to block the sale of Ultrahuman’s Ring Pro in the United States. The company is seeking monetary damages and a permanent injunction, alleging that the Ring Pro infringes on two of Oura’s patents regarding ring design and internal component architecture, specifically covering sensors and batteries.
This legal action follows a previous dispute where U.S. Customs and Border Protection allowed Ultrahuman to return to the American market after a redesign of its products. However, Oura contends that the previous ruling only addressed earlier patent issues and did not cover the specific patents cited in this new complaint, which include patent D804,471 and the recently issued patent 12,769,363.
Ultrahuman, a Bengaluru-based startup, recently launched its redesigned Ring Pro in February to facilitate its return to the U.S. market following a prior import ban. Oura has also named SVTronics, a manufacturing partner based in Texas, as a co-defendant in the suit.
