Ourense bus workers protest over delayed wages and €14 million municipal debt

On Tuesday, employees of the Urbanos de Ourense urban bus service gathered in front of the concessionaire Avanza's facilities in Quintela, Ourense, holding signs that demanded timely payment of their salaries.

The workers report that for the past three months their monthly wages have been paid four to five days late and that the July extra payment has not been received. They attribute the delays to the Avanza concessionaire and the Ourense city council (Concello), stating that the council owes Avanza roughly €14 million for providing the service and has made no payment since 24 February.

The dispute could affect additional services, such as a reinforcement bus to Oira, which the company says it cannot deploy under the current financial strain. About 130‑135 families of the bus workers are directly impacted by the unpaid wages.
