Ourense hosts live ACL reconstruction surgery broadcast to hundreds

More than 300 people gathered at the Teatro Principal in Ourense to watch a live anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery. The procedure was broadcast in real time from the operating room at Hospital El Carmen by traumatologist Adrián Gallego Goyanes.

During the operation, Dr. Gallego utilized the ‘All Inside’ technique. He explained that this method aims to create a more resistant ligament, reduce the risk of relapse, and facilitate faster recovery by utilizing more fascicles. The event, organized by the Asociación Ourensá de Adestradores de Fútbol (Afiador), also included an awards ceremony for football coaches and a roundtable discussion regarding medicine and sports.

The live demonstration aimed to demystify surgical procedures for the public, including medical professionals, coaches, and athletes. The surgery, which lasted approximately 35 minutes, showed the step-by-step process of replacing the damaged ligament and suturing a torn meniscus.
