Ourense infrastructure projects remain stalled through current legislature
Major infrastructure projects in Ourense, Spain, have remained stalled throughout the current legislative period. Key pending developments include the A-76 and A-56 highways, the AVE high-speed rail expansions, and various road improvements.
Investment data from the construction association Seopan indicates that Ourense has received significantly less state investment compared to other provinces like A Coruña and Pontevedra. In the 2024-2026 triennium, Ourense saw 155.5 million euros in tenders, whereas A Coruña received over 609 million euros.
The railway sector has faced operational challenges, including significant delays of up to seven hours and technical failures in the catenary lines between A Gudiña and Sanabria attributed to Adif machinery. Additionally, the proposed freight station in San Cibrao das Viñas remains frozen.
Road infrastructure also shows signs of neglect, with the A-52 highway suffering from structural wear and the N-120 and N-540 national roads experiencing chronic issues. Meanwhile, the A-56 highway connecting Ourense and Lugo remains largely incomplete, with only a small segment operational.
