Ourense municipality tops Spain's list of most delinquent local authorities, overtaking Jaén

The municipal government of Ourense recorded an average payment period of 119.27 days to suppliers in June, far exceeding Spain's legal limit of 30 days and quadrupling the usual deadline. This makes Ourense the province capital with the highest supplier payment delays in the country, surpassing Jaén, which reduced its average to 80.61 days.

Mayor Gonzalo Pérez Jácome attributed the slowdown to a bureaucratic bottleneck in the council's intervention service, while the Tribunal de Cuentas reprimanded the council for failing to submit accounts on time and for concealing contract details. Over €20 million in invoices remain excluded, intensifying the pressure on small and medium‑sized businesses that serve the municipality.
