Ourense opposition demands clarity on municipal debt discrepancy

The opposition in Ourense, led by the Partido Popular (PP), is demanding transparency regarding the municipal government's plan to settle outstanding debts with suppliers. The PP has filed a formal request to access documentation to analyze individual invoices, seeking to understand why payments were delayed and which departments authorized the expenditures.

A central point of contention is a discrepancy in the reported debt figures. While the administration's proposed budget modification aims to address 11.4 million euros in debt, the PP claims that unpaid debts at the close of the 2025 fiscal year totaled 15.7 million euros. This leaves an unexplained difference of approximately 4.3 million euros.

PP spokesperson Ana Méndez stated that while the party intends to support the payment to suppliers, they require a detailed breakdown. This includes a schedule of pending invoices, the specific departments responsible, the amounts, the reasons for non-payment, and the contractual status of each service provided.
