Ourense province faces multiple forest fires as risk reaches extreme levels

The forest‑fire risk index for Spain’s Ourense province has risen to “very high‑to‑extreme”, prompting alerts for extreme temperatures across the region. During the night of 28‑29 July, several fires erupted. In the municipality of Ourense, flames broke out at a house in the Canibelos area; firefighters, municipal and district units, and emergency services contained the blaze without injuries. Around the same time a separate fire started near Salceda in the parish of Cameixa, Boborás, and was stabilised by early morning after crews from one agent, two brigades and two water‑bombing trucks intervened. Residents suspect a fallen pine on an electricity line as the cause. Earlier summer incidents in Boborás and nearby parishes were linked to a deserted house, a train line, and a lightning strike. Across all incidents, fire crews managed to prevent spread to homes and avoided casualties, but the cumulative threat highlights the heightened vulnerability of the province’s 560,000 ha of forested land.
