Ourense to assume control of high-speed rail traffic in Galicia
Adif is decentralizing rail traffic management by transferring control of high-speed trains between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela from the Atocha center in Madrid to a modernized facility in Ourense. The new Circulation Regulation Center (CRC) will be located in the former San Francisco station.
Following a 1.1 million euro investment announced in September 2025, the facility will be equipped with advanced technology, including a 35.14 square meter videowall. Once operational, the center will manage 1,151 kilometers of railway lines across three different track gauges, including the Ferrol-Ribadeo metric gauge section.
The reorganization follows the Urda railway accident in Toledo, which resulted in at least 69 fatalities and led to increased scrutiny of decision-making at the Atocha control center. While the exact service date for the Ourense center has not been finalized, Adif is currently deploying the necessary software and adapting the building.
